Cowgirl Conversations

Real conversations for cowgirls who want confidence, clarity, and connection — in the saddle and in life.

Welcome to the conversation

We are so glad you're here

Stick with us and continue reading, we promise it’ll be worth it.

Cowgirl Conversations is a collaboration between Janelle Cameron (The Equestrian Motion Coach) and Victoria Johnstone (VJ Performance Horses/The Cowgirl Way) — two cowgirls who believe in learning through experience, feel, curiosity, honesty, and grit.

These conversations grew from the same place you probably find yourself in: Trying hard, caring deeply, doing your best for your horse… but wanting more confidence, more direction, and more grounded leadership — without the pressure, the comparison, or the noise.

Each of our convos blends horsemanship, mindset, real-life cowgirl experiences, and practical tools you can use right away.

Whether you’re working a colt, heading to a jackpot, trail riding, or just trying to grow as a human — these conversations meet you where you currently are to help you grow, feel connected & discover clarity in your life.

Be an Outlaw: Some Rules Are Meant to Be Broken

Being an outlaw isn’t about rebelling for the sake of it.

It’s about breaking the unwritten rules that shrink your confidence and keep you small.

You know the ones…

“Don’t try that, you’ll ruin your horse.”

“Someone else knows better than you.”

“You need permission before you experiment.”

“You’re doing it wrong.”

Those rules don’t help. They don’t build confidence. They don’t support learning.

They make you hesitate. They make you question yourself. They make you walk on eggshells around your own horse.

This conversation is about letting those rules go — the shrinking ones, the fear-based ones, the judgment-heavy ones — and rebuilding trust in yourself.

In this conversation, we’ll talk about:

- Letting go of fear-based horse rules

- Reclaiming choice, curiosity, and experimentation

- Showing up without waiting for someone else’s permission

- Learning through doing

- Expanding what’s possible for you and your horses

- Following your feel instead of your fear

This is for the cowgirls who:

- Are ready to trust their own feel

- Want to try new things without the fear of being judged

- Are tired of walking on eggshells around “the right way”

- Know there’s more in them — and in their horse — waiting to be explored

YOU get to choose how you learn, ride, and show up.

Are you ready to show up and learn and develop yourself and your horse?

Unsticking Your Feet — Replay

Just like a colt that gets balled up and stuck, we can find ourselves frozen in place — unsure how to move, how to start, or how to redirect our energy. If we’ve been there, we bet money that you have too.

If you’re heading into winter feeling unmotivated, overwhelmed, frustrated, shut down, or ready to buck out your feelings… this conversation is for you.

We’ll explore:

- What energy actually is — and the difference between energy flowing vs leaking vs blocked

- Where your energy is getting stuck or scattered

- The 5 biggest energy distractions

- 5 skills to redirect energy

- How to “find” energy when you feel empty

- 10 practical resets to get back into flow

- How to move with the energy in you — just like you do with a horse

You’ll know this is for you if you:

- Feel tired, but wired

- Want to make progress but you’re not sure how to start

- Feel like your head and your body are not in the same place

- Feel like you’re either shut down or on the edge of wanting to buck out your feelings

- Feel stuck — in motivation, in your horsemanship, or in life

- Have a buildup of energy that has nowhere to go — frustration, overwhelm, shut-down, restlessness

- Want to understand yourself with the same level of compassion and curiosity you offer your horse

- Know you are capable, but feel disconnected from it right now

- Want to learn how to redirect, not suppress, your energy

Listen up..

You don’t need more force.

You don’t need a new plan.

If we had to guess, you just need to move with the energy that’s already in you — the same way you would with a horse.

Hope Ain’t A Strategy — Replay

There’s a BIG difference between hoping and knowing.

You might hope your colt handles something new…

Hope your horse walks calmly into a new arena…

Hope your run goes smoothly…

But hope alone won’t get you there.

Hope is passive.

We know, probably not what you wanted to hear.

BUT…

Knowing is power.

When you prepare — when you teach, expose, build trust, and take action — you create the foundation that turns hope into confidence.

Inside this conversation, we’ll dig into:

- What hope actually means

- How to spot where you’re relying on hope instead of preparation

- The roadblocks that keep you stuck

- Why hope isn’t a strategy

- How strategy builds confidence, clarity, direction, and understanding

- What it takes to follow through

- The 4 steps to cultivate knowing

- Real stories from cowgirls navigating: time, work, “being good enough”, alleyway confidence and, showing up at the barn grounded instead of hopeful

If you’re ready to move from

Wishing → doing…

Trying → learning…

Hoping → knowing…

Then YOU belong in this conversation.

The Equestrian Motion Coach

Janelle Cameron

Hey, I'm Janelle! I am a rider, a coach, and a lifelong student of movement — human and horse. I help riders understand their body, their patterns, and the way they ride so they can get whatever job is put in front of them and their horse - done.

It isn’t about “fixing” your body. It’s about helping you understand the body you ride, work, and live in all day long — so you can communicate with your horses more clearly, and move in a way that feels strong, supported, and capable of doing the things.

I blend biomechanics, mindset, awareness, curiosity, and real-life riding experience. My style is simple, grounded, and direct. No jargon. No shaming. No perfectionism. Just learning, noticing, experimenting, and finding what works best for you and your horse.

I don’t believe you, as a rider, need to push harder — you need space to explore, tools that make sense, and support that feels like someone is riding beside you, not above you.

That’s why I co-created Cowgirl Conversations with Victoria — a space for real talk, real tools, and real growth for cowgirls just like me :)

The Cowgirl Way

Victoria Johnstone

Hey, I’m Victoria — breeder, horse trainer, clinician, mentor, and the creator of The Cowgirl Way movement.

I help cowgirls step into capability, confidence, and autonomy through hands-on horsemanship, mentorship, and real ranch experience. One of my deepest passions is empowering women through their horses — teaching them to understand the energy they bring, build clarity, and communicate with trust and intention.

I created The Cowgirl Way to give women a place to do the things their soul craves: rope, brand, ride, gather cattle, try new skills, and expand their confidence with support, safety, and community. What started as a two-day branding and ranch rodeo clinic has grown into a movement — a space where cowgirls rise through experience, build courage in real time, and discover how capable they truly are.

Whether I’m working with a colt, teaching someone to throw their first loop, or guiding a woman through a mentorship call, everything I do is rooted in my core values: freedom, connection, integrity, courage, and kindness.

Janelle and I met on social media, two cowgirls who instantly recognized something in each other. After one phone call, I knew she was a lifelong friend. It shocked me how I felt by someone I had never met in person.

We talked about horses, life, alignment, fear, growth, biomechanics, horsemanship, and the deeper side of this industry for hours — and realized we weren’t the only ones who needed these conversations.

So we created Cowgirl Conversations — real, honest, soul-centered talks for likeminded cowgirls who crave connection, wisdom, and community. Together, we are committed to showing cowgirls everywhere that conversation creates connection, and connection creates confidence, courage, and change.
